Meet our Pastor…

Hi. My name is Mike Broome and it is my honor to serve as the Lead Pastor at Kresge Methodist Church in beautiful historic Cedartown, Georgia. I am a single father of three boys, all active in ministry at their respective churches (and sometimes at Kresge Church) with my oldest serving as a Worship Director at a church in Smyrna and all serving in volunteer capacities in ministry and mission, including serving on international mission teams.

I grew up on the southside of Atlanta (Forest Park), where I graduated from Forest Park High School and Clayton State College with an undergraduate in Business and Marketing. Growing up Roman Catholic, I found myself looking for something more and a faith experience that was my own. I found that in the United Methodist Church and in the Fall of 1986, joined Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Morrow/Forest Park where I went on to serve as a young adult on the Administrative Council and as the Missions Chair and participate in the Atlanta South Walk to Emmaus. Later, I would become involved in Youth Ministry and served as a volunteer and on staff. While working in a career of healthcare and marketing, I enrolled in YWAM School of Discipleship in Colorado Springs while I discerned a fulltime call to ministry.

Following a short-term outreach to Pakistan, I returned home to the healthcare sector and began raising a family. I accepted a part time youth pastor position at Stark UMC in Jackson while enrolling at Emory University - Candler School of Theology and accepting a student appointment at Pomona United Methodist Church in Griffin, Georgia. In the winter of 2007, I graduated with a Masters of Divinity and became a Probationary Elder of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. I would be Ordained as an Elder-in-Full Connection in June of 2013 and I have served under pastoral appointment at McDonough First UMC(Associate), Carrollton First UMC(Associate), The Bridge - Cartersville(Lead Pastor), Temple UMC (interim Pastor), Cedartown FUMC(Senior Pastor), Hiram UMC(Senior Pastor), Mount Pisgah UMC(Senior Associate Pastor) and now Kresge Church (a Global Methodist Church). In January of 2024, I transferred my Ordination from the UMC to the GMC and currently serve as an Ordained Elder in that denomination.

I have a heart and passion for the lost and enjoy serving in the community and partnering with groups and agencies seeking to serve those in need. My passion is for the local church in preaching, mission, ministry, discipleship and administration. Over the years, I have had the honor of participating on and leading mission teams to Albany Georgia, Honduras, Guatemala, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Abu Dhabi, London, Philippines, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. I currently serve on the Superintendency Committee of the North Georgia Conference of the Global Methodist Church and the Murphy Harpst Community Advisory Committee in Cedartown. I am an approved Pre-Marital Counselor with Prepare and Enrich.

My free time is usually filled with family outings, hiking, camping, kayaking, Braves baseball or UGA football. I also enjoy biking, gardening, working in the yard and with my hands on various projects. Need to know anything else? Please ask.
